Martha Brown is a board-certified chaplain. Ordained by the United Church of Christ, Martha has served in various governmental and private institutions. Her compassion and commitment to social justice advocacy contributed to her serving people in crisis, persons facing challenges, and those in critical need. Martha is an interpersonal communication instructor and has taught courses at the community college and offered seminars in the community.
In October, Brown was a recipient of the NC Governor's Award for Excellence in the category of Human Relations. Martha earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work at East Carolina University and her Master of Divinity Degree from Brite Divinity at Texas Christian University. A creative artist, Martha has used film, art, and music to offer hope, joy, and support. Nicknamed by a coworker, Chaplain Extra, Brown plays as hard as she works. When not living up to her nickname, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling (by plane, train, automobile, or ship), reading, and laughing.
Planning for marriage should be engaged in as fervently as planning for the day you invite all your family and friends to witness your “I do”.
Martha Brown is dedicated to providing resources to help couples move beyond the wedding day to the marriage through the couples communication courses.
In the couples communication course you will:
- Develop confidence in communicating effectively.
- Create better resolutions to conflict.
- Expand understanding of yourself and your partner.
- Reduce disagreements and tension.

About The Couple Communication Course
While growing up, if you lived with both of your parents, you probably saw them face conflict and make many decisions. Perhaps you observed them decide how much money to spend, what to do on a particular evening, or simply who should put the dog out. The odds are high, however, that you never watched your parents work through a serious difference skillfully and respectfully, let alone constructively discuss their own patterns of decision making or conflict resolution. In the couple communication course, learn concepts and skills that will help you and your partner listen, talk, and relate to one another as well as increase your interpersonal competence to help you both live a more satisfactory and meaningful life.
The Couple Communication course is an eight-hour in-person course.
In this course you will learn to:
- Develop confidence in communicating effectively
- Create better resolutions to conflict
- Expand understanding of yourself and your partner
- Reduce disagreements and tension
This interactive course includes 2 workbooks, skills mats, pocket cards, and an awareness wheel pad.
